Co-Curricular Activities, Extracurricular Activities, and Athletics

Provide diversified programs that enrich the educational experience and optimize opportunities for all students.

Strategic Objective #1:

  • Increase participation rates among students in grades 5-12 in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities by end of 3rd quarter 2021, equal to 75% of the grade span.

Strategies:

  • Utilize committee structure comprised of constituents involved in activities to develop surveys, analyze results, and make recommendations by end of 3rd quarter 2016.
  • Survey parents and students to determine needs, improvements, and basis for current involvement and potential means to increase involvement by end of 4th quarter 2016 with repeat of survey by end of 4th quarter 2020.
  • Survey staff to determine relevance to position, curriculum, and interests of existing activities, perceptions associated with participation, and potential means to increase student involvement by end of 4th quarter 2016 with repeat of survey by end of 4th quarter 2020.
  • Analyze results of surveys by end of 1st quarter 2017
  • Share results of survey with constituents/participants by end of 1st 2nd quarter 2017 with repeat of survey by end of 4th quarter 2020.
  • Develop recommendations to address survey results and other associated matters known to the District by end of 3rd 4th quarter 2017.
  • Prepare a report for the Superintendent summarizing the findings and recommendations for implementation, inclusive of costs and timelines, by end of 1st quarter 2018.
  • Superintendent presents plan/modified plan to constituents and the Board for implementation approval by end of 1st quarter 2018.
  • Implemented actions occur as per approval. Targeting 3rd quarter 2018

Success Indicators:

  • Participation rates will increase in grades 5-12 by end of 3rd quarter 2019 equal to 50% of the grade span.
  • Participation rates will increase in grades 5-12 by end of 3rd quarter 2021 equal to 75% of the grade span.

  • Optimize available student opportunities by ensuring that relevant and diversified offerings, funding, costs, and structure of the co-curricular and extra-curricular programming are aligned to meet the expectations and participation interests by end of 4th quarter 2019.

Strategies:

  • Establish a committee of stakeholders charged with:
  • The development of job descriptions for all co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that are aligned with criteria commensurate with District policies, contracts, best practices, and expectations by end of 4th quarter 2018.
  • The development of an evaluation system for all co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that are aligned with criteria commensurate with District policies, contracts, best practices, and expectations by end of 1st quarter 2019.
  • Instituting job descriptions in coordination with evaluation system for all extra/co-curricular activities by end of 2nd quarter 2019.
  • Creating administrative guidelines for the formation of new clubs/activities by end of 1st quarter 2018.

Success Indicator:

  • Job descriptions aligned with expectations of the position will be implemented.

Strategic Objective #3:

  • Increase the consistency of activity offerings across District Elementary Buildings and grade spans while providing for relevant and diversified offerings based on unique community interest by end of 1st quarter 2018.

Strategies:

  • Establish a committee of stakeholders charged with:
  • Analyzing activities offerings and variances by end of 3rd quarter 2016.
  • Determine the fundamental discrepancies that may exist among base program offerings and provide recommendations to align those activities by end of 4th quarter 2016.
  • Making recommendations to the Superintendent based on analysis of the base activities common for each building by end of 1st quarter 2017.

Success Indicator:

  • A document will be produced that outlines base offerings and provides administrative guidance to maintain alignment as appropriate.
