RSI is regarded as the most competitive and prestigious high school summer science program in the nation, with a selection rate of less than 5%. The RSI Selection Committee selects students on the basis of academic merit in science, mathematics and verbal arts and achievements in STEM-related fields.  The Committee also considers the accepted scholars’ standardized test scores, high school grades, essay submissions, teacher recommendations, and potential to become future leaders in STEM fields.

At RSI, Karthik will live in the MIT dorms and attend lectures and classes given by distinguished professors and scientists, including a number of Nobel laureates. This will be followed by more than four weeks of intense, graduate-level research with a professor or research scientist in Karthik’s area of interest. He will conclude, in the last week, by demonstrating his work through a written academic paper and an oral presentation to his peers and a panel of judges. The RSI provides students with the opportunity to conduct original, cutting edge research in state-of-the-art university laboratories, hospitals, and corporate research facilities. Students invited to the program receive free tuition, room, and board.
