BOARD VACANCY PROCESS
- A vacancy must be filled within 30 days and appointed by a majority of the remaining Board members. A vacancy will take effect on March 29, 2023 and must be filled by 04/27/2023.
- School Director appointed to fill the unexpired term to the first Monday in December 2023.
- There will be a two-year seat on the Board up for election in November of 2023, in addition to the other five four-year seats and the other 2 year seat that will be on the ballot.
- This vacancy will not appear on the 2023 primary ballot.

The Methacton School District Board of School Directors is seeking applicants to fill an anticipated vacancy on the Board of School Directors for an unexpired term ending the first Monday in December 2023. The Board has outlined a process found at www.methacton.org/boardvacancy by which they will screen, interview, and appoint a member of the Methacton community. Deadline for applicants is April 6, 2023 at 12noon.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
- The 3 candidates selected for interview must submit statement of financial interest prior to interview. (This allows for the interview, appointment and Oath of Office to occur on the same evening.)
- The appointed candidate must take an Oath of Office.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Good moral character.
- Resident of the school district for at least one (1) year prior to appointment.
- Must have no record of conviction for any felony offense, or any misdemeanor offense involving dishonesty or other “moral turpitude”. A federal law known as the Hatch Act prohibits all federal employees and employees of state or local governments whose positions are funded entirely from federal sources from being candidates in partisan political elections for public office, including school boards.
- The Hatch Act does not prohibit holding elective office if appointed to fill a vacancy.
- Active-duty military, including reservists serving on active duty, are prohibited by federal law and Department of Defense regulations from running for or holding partisan political office.
- School directors cannot be employed by their school district during the term for which elected.
- The office of school director is designated as incompatible with most other local government elective offices; incompatible offices cannot be held simultaneously.
Two-Step Process
STEP 1: Applicant Screening
- Application process opens March 21, 2023 and closes April 6, 2023 at 12 Noon.
- A Google account is required to sign in to the application here.
- If you do not have a Google account, click here to create one.
- Remaining Board members will review all applicants and submit their top 3 choices to the Board Secretary by 1PM on April 13, 2023.
- The Board Secretary will tally all responses. Superintendent will contact top 3 candidates by 4pm April 13, 2023 .
- Top 3 applicant names will appear on the Board Work Session Agenda released at 7PM Saturday, April 15, 2023.
- All applicants are asked to complete the following 6 questions for the initial applicant screening via online form found here.
Questions are as follows:
- Why are you interested in serving on the Board? (1,200 characters maximum)
- What do you perceive to be the responsibilities of the Board? (1,200 characters maximum)
- What are the strengths of our school district? (1,200 characters maximum)
- What are the challenges facing our school district? (1,200 characters maximum)
- What qualities, skills and experience would you bring to the Board? (1,200 characters maximum)
- What are the biggest challenges facing public education today? (1,200 characters maximum)
STEP 2: Public Interview
- Interviews will occur at a Special Meeting of the Board on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 beginning at 7:00 PM at the Arcola Intermediate School auditorium. The Work Session of the Board will occur following the Special Meeting.
- Candidates will pick a number from a hat for interview order.
- Each candidate will be asked the same questions.
- Each interview candidate will have the same amount of time for response to each question within the overall time limit. (Estimated between 10-15 minutes total for each candidate/interview)
- The Board will discuss the candidates once all interviews are complete.
- The Board will take motion/action for appointment.
